Welcome to "Advanced Orthodontics Study Club for the GP 2023-2024" Registration Site


Presented by Dr. Siddharth Vora (Thursday and Saturday sessions) and Dr. Ben Pliska (Friday session)

SESSION DATES / TIMES:

  • Saturday AM 8am-Noon          

Each session is 4 hours in length, up to 44 continuing education hours in total. 

All in - person sessions will have an option to attend via Zoom.

Eligibility

General Dentists who have taken a Basic Orthodontic Course, or who are recent graduates of UBC, or who have had exposure since graduation to fixed appliance principles and practice. If in doubt regarding your eligibility to attend, contact Dr. Vora/Dr. Pliska, or the Director of Continuing Dental Education. Participants must hold a current practicing license, with malpractice insurance of at least $3 million. If you are new to the study club, we will contact you regarding your eligibility by email.

You may pay in full now or select our payment installment option: A non-refundable deposit ($800.00) is due upon registration. Registration is your commitment to the Advanced Orthodontics for the GP Study Club. Registration is a year long commitment, therefore if you have chosen to pay using our installment option, it is expected that you will make the future installment payments.

All necessary instruments, equipment and expendables are provided and are included in the course fee. Brackets, bonds, archwires etc. are invoiced to participants and must be paid within 30 days of receipt of invoice.

Terms and Condition; I understand and agree;

Licensing and Indemnity: If I am providing patient care as part of this study club, that I hold a current practicing license, with malpractice insurance that meets the requirements of the bylaws of the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (out of province dentists treating patients here in BC must obtain a temporary license from the BCCOHP. https://oralhealthbc.ca/)

If I have auxiliary staff attending, I will ensure they carry the appropriate license and insurance.

I indemnify and hold harmless the University of British Columbia, its Board of Governors, faculty/study club mentors, employees and agents against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, actions, damages, and expenses whatsoever, including legal fees, arising from my course attendance, my treatment of patients during this study club, and my use of or presence in, the Patterson Dental Learning Centre.

Patient Care: The patients that receive treatment during the study club are not and will not become patients of UBC by reason of their participation in the study club; the patients I treat during the study club will be my patients. Therefore I will be responsible for the accuracy, accessibility and protection of each patients arising from the treatment I provide. I will ensure I keep accurate records, progress and completion documentation/photos and all other required documents pertinent to the treatment I provide. 

Participants are required to ensure that their patients complete ‘informed consent forms’ and that these forms indicate that the patient is being treated by the participant and not by UBC. Patients should be informed that they are being treated in a study club setting and that their treatment may be observed/discussed by the group. I will cause each patient receiving treatment, as part of their informed consent, to execute a release and waiver of UBC which includes the following language, which may form part of my own release and waiver to be signed by the patient.  

"I acknowledge that I am being treated in a study club setting and my treatment may be observed/discussed by the study club. I further acknowledge that I am a patient of (Name of Dentist) and not a patient of the The University of British Columbia ('UBC"). The dental treatment that I will receive on (date) is not endorsed by or supervised by UBC.  Understanding that I am not receiving any dental treatment from UBC, I hereby waive any and all claims against UBC, release UBC from liability and agree not to sue UBC, its governors, officers, faculty/study club mentors,  employees, agents, faculty/study club mentors and representatives, for any personal injury or any other loss sustained by in in connection with the dental treatment that I will receive during the study club."

Presentations and instructions provided by clinical faculty/study club mentors should not be construed as treatment of the patient by the faculty member, I remain the doctor of record responsible for the health and wellbeing of the patient.

Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable deposit ($800.00) is due upon registration. Registration is my commitment to the Advanced Orthodontics for the GP Study Club. Registration is a year long commitment, therefore if I have chosen to pay using our installment option, it is expected that I will make the future installment payments. Continuing Dental Education at The University of British Columbia reserves the right to cancel courses if deemed necessary by low enrolment, instructor cancellation by UBC or other unforeseen issues. In case of course cancellation a full refund will be issued.

COVID-19: Participants attending any in-person program at The University of British Columbia must regularly refer to information released by the BC Ministry of Health and the Office of the Provincial Health Officer about COVID-19. Participants must adhere to all health professional guidelines released by the BC Centre for Disease Control, BC Provincial Infection Control Network (PICNet) as well as the health and safety guidelines set by The University of British Columbia.  Guidelines may include but are not limited to the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), daily self-assessment prior to visiting UBC, strict adherence to travel restrictions, UBC room capacity limitations, etc. In the event that a course is cancelled by UBC CDE due to an order, notice and/or guidance from BC’s Provincial Health Officer, The University of British Columbia or any other governmental authority, tuition fees will be fully refunded.
