                The number of manual wheelchair users reporting shoulder pain is growing. Exercise programs, activity and wheelchair modifications  effectively reduce shoulder pain in those with SCI. This session reviews an approach to addressing shoulder impairments in this population, including a Manual Wheelchair Skills Training Program and Upper Extremity Pain Clinic.
Learning Objectives:
1. Highlight shoulder pain prevalence and incidence in persons with spinal cord injury who utilize manual wheelchairs
2. Explain shoulder assessment and present wheelchair skills clinic protocol for prevention and remediation of shoulder pain in persons with spinal cord injury who utilize manual wheelchairs
3. Define basic manual wheelchair assessment and modifications to improve posture and joint kinematics
