                Listening to the special needs of the elderly is essential when prescribing seating and mobility systems. Comfort, pain reduction and the ability to maintain autonomy, basic physiological functioning and safety is individualized. Specific seating is a must to reduce restraint concerns and prevent a full withdrawal from society.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe two postural tendencies in the geriatric population
2. Describe three physiological functions that are adversely affected by poor seated posture in the elderly
3. Identify three points of positioning that will assist to reduce sliding and restraint use
