Bed support surfaces are the mainstay in pressure redistribution and to preventing/treating pressure ulcers. There is little training on when to use what product. Knowing how and when to recommend and evaluate the clinical effectiveness and efficacy of support surfaces will help ATPs and clinicians prevent and treat pressure ulcers. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe how and why support surfaces address extrinsic factors 2. List at least three potential opportunities for support surface application 3. Examine practice standards and codes of ethics for health care professionals and ATPs (RESNA and NRRTS) and how these relate to pressure ulcers and support surfaces 4. Match a specific product’s features to a specific patient population
