Details

The materials that make up Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) are sophisticated and varied. This course will review design considerations regarding material science based on international standards. Content will emphasize the specific properties of currently utilized materials regarding safety and efficacy, and review application of materials based on design intent. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize and assess at least four materials used in CRT and provide the justification for these materials when fabricating wheelchairs, backrests, and cushions 2. Describe how material selection has a direct effect on the end user utilizing the International Classification of Function (ICF) model approach 3. List three relevant health and safety hazards that are prevented by proper material selection when using the associated ISO wheelchair CRT standards 4. Identify three funding considerations when procuring a seating and mobility device with optimal materials, providing reasons for why the materials are medically necessary for the user
