2026 Orthodontic Module For Certified Dental Assistants & Registered Dental Hygienists

Session A: Clinical Sat - Wed, May 23 - 27, 2026, 8:00AM - 5:30PM / Written Exam - Wed, May 27, 9:00AM - 11:00AM
Session B: Clinical Sat - Wed, May 30 - June 3, 2026, 8:00AM - 5:30PM / Written Exam - Wed, June 3, 9:00AM - 11:00AM
A live (via Zoom) question and answer session is scheduled for the evenings of May 20 (session A) and May 27 (session B).
In mid April, you will receive further information including the online study modules, course information binder and session placement; whether you are in clinical session A or clinical session B.

LOCATION:
Lectures: On-line (Pre-recorded videos) approx. 20 hours

Clinical: Nobel Biocare Oral Health Centre, UBC, Vancouver

CLINICAL SESSIONS / ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

The clinical session runs for four days, Saturday – Tuesday (with the written exam on Wednesday am).

Program eligibility requirements include;

• Current active license to practice in British Columbia

• At least one year practical experience as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)

• Good vision for close work (or effective corrective prescription)

• The ability to be a patient at the program*

*Participants work on each other in the Orthodontic Module, therefore you must be prepared to be a patient, or provide a stand-in who is prepared to be a patient. Banding/Bonding Sessions: you must have at least one bicuspid, the first permanent molar and the second permanent molar available and in good shape, in both an upper and a lower arch (either side will work) for the banding component (which you will be required to separate in advance), and 4-6 teeth for the etching component. If you are in orthodontic treatment, you are required to dewire and remove brackets/bands/clear aligner attachments/buttons on many of your teeth for banding/bonding/etching. If you do not have the appropriate teeth or you are unable to remove orthodontic attachments, you must bring a stand-in.

You will be required to sign a consent form for your partner to perform orthodontic training procedures, or in the case of a stand-in, for your stand-in to consent. • Continuing Dental Education at The University of British Columbia reserves the right to cancel courses or switch instructors if deemed necessary by low enrolment, instructor cancellation or other unforeseen issues. In case of course cancellation by CDE, a full refund will be issued. • You must bring clinical supplies/instruments and PPE required for the course, a list of which will be provided by UBC Continuing Dental Education in advance. • Indemnity: Participants attending any UBC Continuing Dental Education course agree to indemnify and hold harmless The University of British Columbia, its Board of Governors, employees and agents against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses whatsoever, including legal fees, arising from their course attendance. • You have received the registration link directly from UBC Continuing Dental Education and it has not been shared with you by any other participant; should UBC Continuing Dental Education receive any registrations from participants that were not directly invited by UBC, they will be deleted and refunded.
