Welcome to the "2025 Local Anaesthesia for Dental Hygienists" Registration Site

Dental hygienists who are authorized and certified to administer local anesthesia (LA) in BC have the indication of “(C)” next to their license class. Successful completion of UBC’s Local Anaesthesia for Dental Hygienists course meets the College of Dental Hygienists of BC criteria to obtain a “(C)” certification. As a certification requirement, this is a NON-CREDIT Course.

Course Dates:
Session I: October 18 - 19, 2025 (lectures, clinical instruction, and application of clinical techniques)
Session II: November 7 (evening) & 8, 2025 (written and clinical evaluations)

Participants practice on each other, therefore you must consent to receive local anaesthesia and related treatments or you must provide a consenting stand-in for your partner. 

PRACTICUM: During the interval between session I and session II participants must arrange to practice the techniques taught under personal supervision in a dental office. Further details regarding the practice period and supervision guidelines will be sent with your study guide, a few weeks in advance of the course. Guidelines will also be sent to your employing dentists / supervisor in advance of the practice time.

Course Requirements (please read carefully) - Before registering, you must be aware of and agree to the following:

  • BC participants must be registered and in good standing with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals and must hold College required insurance.
  • Out of province participants must hold a temporary (visitor) license from the BC College of Oral Health Professionals to attend this course and can apply at https://oralhealthbc.ca/
  • Participants practice on each other, therefore you must consent to receive local anaesthesia and related treatments or you must provide a consenting stand-in for your partner.
  • Participants must hold BLS or HCP CPR certification.
  • PRACTICUM: During the interval between session I and session II participants must arrange to practice the techniques taught under personal supervision in a dental office. Further details regarding the practice period and supervision guidelines will be sent with your study guide a few weeks in advance of the course. Guidelines will also be sent to your employing dentist / supervisor.
  • Participants must pre-read “Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist” by Demetra Daskalos Logothetis. 3rd Edition (additional cost).
  • Should a participant be unsuccessful on the exam/s (Nov. 7-8) a supplemental exam/s will be held on November 29, 2025.

Summary
CANCELLATION POLICY:
$850 is non-refundable at any time. The balance of $845 is only refundable until September 12, 2025. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER September 12, 2025. Registrants withdrawing prior to September 12, 2025 will be refunded less the non-refundable amount of $850. All fees are non-transferrable. Continuing Dental Education at The University of British Columbia reserved the right to cancel courses if deemed necessary by low enrolment, instructor cancellation or other unforeseen issues. In the case of course cancellation, full refund will be issued.
